Coming off the high of releasing their newest album, Lovesick, The Happy Fits made their way back to the PNW this past week with shows in Portland and Seattle, and they brought their A-game.
Their set was full of infectious energy, killer cello-bass work, and a crowd that had been eagerly awaiting their return to the stage.

This year has marked not only a new album packed with powerhouse songs and lyrics, but also the debut of the two newest members of the group: Raina Mullen and Nico Rose on guitar and vocals. The pair fits perfectly alongside lead singer and cello master Calvin Langman and drummer Luke Davis.
Once you see them live or listen to the album, it'll be obvious why these two are such incredible additions to the band.

If you aren’t familiar with The Happy Fits’ sound or stage presence, you’re in for a treat. A band whose songs first landed on my Discover Weekly quickly became regulars in my rotation and have stayed at the top of my Spotify year after year. Their sound is exactly what their name promises: happy, bright, and energetic. Nearly every song is danceable and guaranteed to lift you out of a bad mood, and that feeling radiates from the stage. But woven throughout their upbeat melodies and inviting bass lines are lyrics about life, love, heartbreak, and the highs and lows that come with them. It’s a refreshing dynamic to be able to enjoy the music on its own, then sit with the lyrics and find something deeper beneath the dance beats. It’s truly what makes them so unique and unforgettable.

Aside from the music itself, one thing you’ll notice immediately - whether you’re seeing them live or watching a music video - is their unique pop/rock setup: lead singer Calvin Langman doesn’t carry a guitar, but instead pours his heart out through the cello. Once you spot it, it makes their music even more fun to experience and adds another layer to their artistry. It shows passion, intention, and a willingness to break the mold. It proves that there’s no “right” way to compose a band. Just find your sound and follow it.
Their nearly sold-out Seattle show at The Showbox this week delivered everything mentioned above and more. For fans who have been anticipating their comeback, you’ll be happy to know they didn’t leave out any heavy-hitting favorites, and they showcased the strength of their latest album beautifully.
Starting off with two singles from Lovesick: “Cruel Power” and “Everything You Do”, they set the tone for a night filled with dancing, jumping, and hands in the air. Longtime fans were thrilled to hear classics like “She Wants Me (To Be Loved),” “Dirty Imbecile,” and “So Alright, Cool, Whatever.” The show closed with “Too Late,” a song that builds the energy in the room until the very last note, ending the night on an electrifying high.

Whether you’ve been counting down since their last release or you’re just now discovering them, if you had the chance to see them live, consider yourself lucky. And if you missed them this time, they’re still on the road through the rest of the month and into December - and we’re confident they’ll make their way back to the West Coast as soon as they can.
