Next week marks the 14th annual Treefort Music Fest in Boise, ID - five days of community, good eats, art, creative gatherings, and of course, the music. In less than ten days, downtown Boise transforms into a creative hub filled with life, collaboration, and celebration.

Treefort isn’t your typical two-stage festival where crowds gather in one field all weekend. Instead, the entire downtown becomes the festival grounds. Venues, parks, clubs, galleries, and public spaces host performances and events, creating a citywide playground for music discovery. It’s the kind of place where you might walk into a venue without knowing the artist and walk out having found your new favorite band.
Beyond the music, Treefort is made up of a collection of themed “forts,” including Foodfort, Alefort, Filmfort, Comedyfort, Artfort, Kidfort, and the brand-new Treefort Market - all contributing to the festival’s unique creative ecosystem.
How Treefort Works: The Multi-Venue Setup
If this is your first year attending Treefort, understanding how the venues and schedule work will make navigating the festival much easier. Instead of one central stage, Treefort spreads performances across dozens of venues throughout downtown Boise. That means hopping from one show to another is part of the experience.

Downloading the official Treefort Music Fest app is essential. The app allows you to browse the full lineup, build a personal schedule, share plans with friends, and stay updated on set changes or venue announcements.
Some of the festival’s most prominent venues include Knitting Factory Boise, Neurolux, and the outdoor Treefort Main Stage at Julia Davis Park. Each venue has its own vibe, from intimate club performances to larger outdoor sets.
We suggest not locking yourself into an overly strict schedule. Leave room to wander. Sometimes the best moments at Treefort often happen when you stumble into a show you didn’t plan on seeing.
Beyond Music
Treefort may be known as a music festival, but it’s far more than a lineup of bands. It’s about the art, the food, the drinks, the comedy, and the sense of togetherness that fills the city throughout the week. Even if your main focus is catching live sets, exploring some of the other “forts” is part of the full experience.
At Alefort, craft beer lovers can sample brews from regional breweries and attend tasting events. Foodfort brings together chefs and food vendors for collaborations, pop-ups, and special dining events. Fans of stand-up can check out Comedyfort, which hosts comedians, podcasts, and improv shows, while Filmfort highlights independent films and screenings. Meanwhile, Artfort showcases installations, performances, and interactive artwork across the city.

New this year: Treefort is launching the Treefort Market, a curated maker’s market featuring 75 artists, designers, and vintage vendors from across the region. The market will run Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Boise Centre East and is open to the public with no festival wristband required. In addition to shopping, attendees can expect workshops, talks, art installations, and special events — all while enjoying food and drinks on site.
Even the most music-focused festivalgoers should try to check out at least one non-music event. It’s part of what makes Treefort feel like a full creative community rather than just a concert series.
Logistics You’ll Be Glad You Knew
Getting around Treefort is surprisingly easy. Downtown Boise is extremely walkable (and flat), and most venues are within a reasonable distance of each other. Many attendees spend the weekend moving between shows entirely on foot, though rideshare services and bikes can be helpful late at night.
Weather is another thing to keep in mind. Late March in Idaho can bring cool evenings and unpredictable conditions, so layering is key. A light jacket or rain shell can make a big difference when temperatures drop after sunset.
Accommodation options range from downtown hotels to nearby Airbnb rentals. If you’re staying farther from downtown, consider relying on public transportation or rideshare options to commute into the festival area.
Planning Your Festival Schedule
With hundreds of performances happening across five days, planning your Treefort schedule can feel overwhelming at first. The key is to focus on a few must-see artists while leaving room for spontaneity.
The Treefort schedule app is the best tool for mapping out your days. Start by marking the artists you absolutely want to see, then fill in the gaps with new discoveries. Since shows often overlap, it’s common to catch part of one set before moving on to another venue.
Expect some lines for smaller venues when buzzworthy artists are performing. Arriving early can help secure a spot, but flexibility is just as important.
Sometimes the most memorable sets aren’t the ones you planned for, they’re the bands you discover while wandering between venues.
Aftershows, Late-Night Sets & Hidden Gems
The music doesn’t stop when the main stage closes. Treefort is known for its late-night performances, DJ sets, and spontaneous moments that stretch well past midnight.
Smaller venues often host unofficial-feeling shows that become highlights of the weekend. Spots like Neurolux are particularly known for late-night energy and packed crowds of dedicated festivalgoers.
If you still have energy after a full day of shows, the late-night scene is worth exploring. Some of the most unforgettable performances at Treefort happen long after midnight, when artists and fans alike are leaning into the festival’s anything-can-happen atmosphere.

Embrace the Chaos
Treefort thrives on discovery, community, and the unexpected. The best approach to the weekend is simple: stay curious. Follow the music drifting out of venues, talk to fellow festivalgoers about the sets they loved, and don’t be afraid to deviate from your schedule.
After all, the magic of Treefort lies in those spontaneous moments. The band you didn’t know, the show you almost skipped, the late-night set you’ll still be talking about months later.
